Some love stories feel like they come full circle, and this one absolutely did.
Years ago, in the sun-drenched streets of Charleston, I met Babz. Back then, I was living like every day was a vacation, soaking up a season of spontaneity and freedom. What I didn’t know at the time was that I’d stumbled into one of those rare, lifelong friendships…the kind that sticks, even after time and distance try to do their thing.
Fast forward ten years and a couple hundred miles: Babz and I reconnected earlier this year over Asian food in Nashville. That’s where I met her now-husband Matty for the first time, and where they floated the idea of doing a couples boudoir session the night before their wedding.
Over bao buns and cocktails, I said, “Umm… hell yes.”
From Catching Up to Creating Magic
Their idea wasn’t just bold, it was them. Nontraditional, intimate, and full of soul.
When the day finally arrived, I checked into a beautiful hotel in Lexington, Kentucky, daiquiri ingredients in tow. My role for the evening? Photographer, bartender, and hype girl. And honestly… I wouldn’t have had it any other way.
We kicked things off with solo portraits of Babz. From the very first shot, she brought the heat…effortlessly confident, glowing, and completely in her element. When Matty joined her, their connection lit up the room. It wasn’t just sexy, it was magnetic.
The way they moved together, the way they looked at each other… it was clear this wasn’t just about taking photos. This was about celebrating the beginning of something real, raw, and completely their own.
More Than Just a Boudoir Session
The shoot wrapped with hugs, daiquiris, and the two of them heading off to their rehearsal dinner glowing. I floated back to my room in that post-session haze you only get when you know you’ve just witnessed something incredibly special.
Was it traditional? Not at all.
Was it sexy, soulful, and overflowing with love? Absolutely.
And that’s the thing I love most about couples boudoir photography – it’s not about fitting into a mold. It’s about capturing the magic that’s already there, in whatever form it takes.
